Document Detective Technical Support
Document Detective includes some built in diagnostics that could help our technical support team determine the cause of a problem. This is especially true if Document Detective crashes when processing a document. Use the information below to capture a diagnostics file to be uploaded using our technical support contact form.

Diagnostics for Content Controls Tools

Use this procedure if the Flatten Document process fails.

After you click the Flatten Document button, select "Flatten Options" and check the "Enable Diagnostics" checkbox as shown in the following screenshots. You can also use the Configure Document Detective option in the Start menu tree to enable diagnostics. You will find it in the Document Detective utilities folder. Select "Flatten Options" for the "View> menu to find the Enable Diagnostics checkbox.

Run the document that causes the crash again. After the crash, the diagnostics file can be found in the My Documents/Document Detective folder. It will be named:

  • Word - "worddiag.txt"
  • Excel - "exceldiag.txt"
  • PowerPoint - "pptdiag.txt"
Attach this file to the technical support contact form

Don't forget to turn of the diagnostics. This file is cummulative, so it can collect a lot of data.

Diagnostics for the Content Browser and Checklist Viewer

Use this procedure if the Content Browser or the Checklist Viewer fail to complete a security scan.

Start the Content Browser and cancel the keyword selection dialog. Next, select "Options" from the "View" menu. Click the "Custom" tab and then the "Advanced" button. Check the "Enable Diagnostics" box and provide a path for the diagnostics file.

Run the document that causes the crash again. After the crash, attach the diagnostics file to the technical support contact form

Don't forget to turn of the diagnostics. This file is not cummulative, but it adds a lot of processing time when scanning a file.
